🐕🐈⬛ WILL YOU HELP FEED 252 COMPANION PETS OF SENIORS AND THE HOMEBOUND?
Our pre-holiday Pet Food Drive is here! Imagine being a senior or homebound individual who has to make the decision to buy groceries (medicine, electric, doctor's bills) for him or herself, or buy pet food for their furry companion. Sadly, some adults in our community have to make that choice every day. It would be an unbearable decision for us to make. In our home, pets are family, and we can't imagine our lives without our dogs and cats.
For the past 17 years, our mission has been to collect pet food to provide for the companion pets of the seniors and homebound individuals who receive Meals on Wheels. Some years we collect a lot, and other years it's just a bit more of a challenge. We understand that times are really hard right now and everything costs so much more. We spoke with Christy Dalton at Feed More recently, and she told us that currently they provide for 1,269 people through Meals on Wheels, and 252 pets - 140 dogs, 110 cats and 2 birds served by their Meals for Pets program. That amounts to 504 pet meals a day, or over 15,000 pet meals a month.
By purchasing pet food through our Amazon Wish List, you'll ensure that companion pets—sometimes a homebound or senior’s only family member and source of comfort—stay well-fed and out of our overcrowded animal shelters. 😸
We will be collecting pet food from October 26 - November 20.
If you'd like to donate, and we hope you will, please visit the link to our Amazon Wish List. 100% of all you donate—food, toys, and treats—gets delivered directly to the Meals for Pets program at Feed More. Check out our videos from past years below.
For seniors and people with disabilities living alone, pets offer loyal companionship and a meaningful sense of connection that helps ease loneliness. That's why we work hard each year to make sure our furry and feathered friends are staying healthy. Want to help brighten the lives of our homebound neighbors? Here's how you can help.
Purchase pet food, toys and treats through the Wish List below. This year we have been asked to collect smaller bags to make it easier on the seniors and on the Feed More delivery volunteers. Please consider giving multiple bags in place of a larger bag so our impact is just as far-reaching.
We believe strongly in helping others and part of our mission is supporting charities we feel have made a difference in the lives of people and pets. Since 2008, we have been holding annual and sometimes biannual pet food drives to benefit the pets of Feed More's Meals on Wheels' recipients. Feed More's Meals for Pets program keeps pets in the homes of seniors and individuals with disabilities by providing the same nutritious meals for pets as it does for their human recipients. The pet food pantry is always in need. In 2024, with support from this amazing pet-loving community, we collected 3,429 pounds of pet food which was donated to Feed More.
We also supported the Richmond SPCA and raised over $2800 in 2021 with our Over The Edge campaign and fund-raising event at Common House. Did you know it costs about $370 on average (2021) to care for each pet who enters Richmond SPCA's shelter before they are adopted? The SPCA also offers low cost spay and neuter, as well as reduced cost veterinary services. By doing so, they are helping people and pets in our community. We also supported them in 2024, as the RVA Dog Pack, our community group. We raised almost $1,600 to help animals in need.
Our cats, Pete, Ernie, and our newest, Little Man, got their start at Richmond Animal Care and Control. The RACC Foundation is a 501(c)3 non-profit dedicated to supporting the agency's success. Our kittens received nutritious meals in their foster home, were tested for infectious diseases, got all their shots, and were even neutered for a low adoption fee.
Our Dog Pack VIP Program - Help make a difference in RVA. We’ve created a VIP program for our pack members to make a difference each time they walk with us. When you come to a walk, you'll receive a VIP card with 8 paw prints on it. Each time you join us, you’ll get a stamp. Eight stamps equals a donation to your favorite Richmond-area pet-related non-profit. We’re so excited for you and your pup to partner with us in this new and fun way to help our community.
Serving Through Our Business
We like to serve our community through our real estate services, too. We understand that buying or selling a home is more than just a transaction: it’s a life-changing experience and that’s what it is meant to be. We believe, both professionally and personally, that there is nothing better than owning a home. Making your home your own, with your favorite things and then making memories to last a lifetime, with family, pets, and friends, is what it’s all about.
We’ve got a double personality - homes and dogs. Love nature, new friends, and fun? You’ll fit right in! Each month we explore a new park/place of interest with our pups by our side. Dog optional. Love of pups required. You won’t find nicer people or pups in all of Richmond, VA. Want to join us for a stroll? Visit the link below to check out our next walk.
Feed More serves around 1269 human clients on any given day in 2025, in and around Richmond, VA.
They also have 110 cats, 140 dogs and 2 birds that are served currently.
"The Meals on Wheels For Pets program enables Feed More to provide pet food and other necessary services to ease some of that burden and make it possible for local seniors and their beloved pets to stay together.”
Bags of dry dog and cat food,
or cans with easy-open tops are needed to ensure that these pets, sometimes a senior or homebound individual’s only companion, will receive the same nutritious meals from Meals on Wheels as their owners do.
Most pets, if fortunate enough, eat twice a day. That amounts to 504 meals a day, or over 15,000 meals a month. All of that pet food needs to come from donations. That's a lot of pet food we need to collect!
Cities of Colonial Heights, Hopewell, Richmond and Petersburg, Counties of Henrico, Chesterfield, Dinwiddie, Goochland, Hanover, Louisa, Prince George, Powhatan, New Kent and Charles City.
Based on evidence that companion animals improve the mental and physical well-being of seniors/homebound, Meals on Wheels America officially began supporting pet assistance services in 2007.
We did it and it's all because of you! The 2025 September 13th walk and fundraiser for Henrico Humane Society at Crump Park was a perfect day with our RVA Dog Pack family and Richmond's animal-loving community. Thanks to your generosity, Lisa not only met but exceeded her 2025 fundraising goal for HHS. Every dollar raised translates into real care, food, medical treatment, and most importantly, more chances for homeless pets to leave shelters and find their forever families.
Pictured with Lisa is Greg McQuade, MC of the event, WTVR Channel 6 journalist and storyteller, and all-around kind soul who added so much heart to the day's events.
